Since time immemorial, Yoga has been preached and practiced as the means to achieve sublime health and longevity. Yoga, its practitioners say, is an alternative medicine that helps keep ailments and diseases at bay without any side-effects unlike the Allopathic medicines. It's said to be a secret of youth and wellness if pursued correctly and diligently. Modern science considers panic attacks as a disorder and a negative state of mind. Researchers and psychologists today see this very phenomenon in a different light.

While our mind is capable of flying at a speed faster than light, it is this very virtue that may boomerang if you fail to keep the speed thoughts under control. And when mind focuses excessively on one subject, refuses to let go of the thought, begins to weave a world of dreams around the subject, and in the process losing control over their body functions that's when it's said to have been suffering from panic attacks.

Panic attacks may be regarded as a psychological problem and the patient may be considered suffering from mental disease, but the truth is that panic attack is just a state of mind triggered by a wave of thoughts that go out of control leading to extreme levels of anxiety. If this happens frequently and without any external provocation, then it is termed as panic attack. Yoga deals with control of mind over your body, it can be concluded that Yoga does and definitely help in getting over the problem. While it is not possible to control the panic attack once it has set in, the problem can be blocked from bouncing back by performing Yoga.

The whole process of controlling and overcoming the disorder starts with you and ends with you. Begin reading your mind and the flow and speed of thoughts. Understand that your mind is most calm whenever at ease. Practice breathing technique involving three steps for one hour daily: relax the body, slow down breathing to the minimum and gain control over mind by deleting every passing thought one by one. Practice abdominal breathing, which includes keeping the duration of exhalation longer than inhalation. This will burn off the negative energy which has accumulated and is polluting in your mind. Inhaling and exhaling from left nostril is also very useful in reducing the levels of stress and anxiety.

Yoga also teaches to focus on body movements and balance. Panic attack can be put off by focusing all the mental energy on your body thus negating every thought which have the potential to trigger a panic attack. Supplementing the Yoga with meditation will only do an added good to your efforts in gaining control over panic attacks. While Yoga works on your body and tones it up to face up to the challenge of panic attack, meditation soothes your nerves and releases the pent up energy and steam from the mind.

Even half-an-hour of daily Meditation will hugely help keep your mind and body under control. Remember, panic attacks are not incurable. They are just symptoms and not a disease. Though time consuming and demanding lot of patience and diligence; Yoga and Meditation are the safest and most effective ways of getting rid of panic attacks. Practice it with faith and dedication and it will work miracle.
