Book Review: Shmirshky

Book Review: Shmirshky

ShmirshkybookIf you visit here regularly you know by now that I am a 'middle aged' woman that is just an average person – sort of like the women in your life. That's why I feel so connected to my readers.

I know we have a lot in common. And for that reason I want to share the things I enjoy. You'll notice that throughout this site I recommend various products, services and books – that's because I think you will enjoy them too. Today I want to offer this book review of "Shmirshky" by "E".

Shmirshky – The Pursuit Of Hormone Happiness

By Ellen Sarver Dolgen

I think I will begin by telling you a bit about 'E', the author. Ellen Sarver Dolgen is also the creator of Shmirshky.com, which is a wonderful resource for women going through perimenopause and menopause or for anyone interested in the topic. Ellen says that 'E' stands for everyone.

The author is one of those people that have a way of making you feel as though you've known her for years. Her writing style is easy and she can turn a phrase about a serious topic into something that will make you smile. Her commitment to promoting health and wellness is admirable.

When you read Shmirshky you are sure to see yourself and other women in your life being described. I was surprised to find that some of the 'strange and unusual' things I personally experienced during menopause were not so strange and unusual at all.

It seems that women in general just do not share their experiences about this phenomenon. Even though we all go through it and this is yet again another way that we are bonded in sisterhood, we just don't share enough!

Ellen's message is that rather than suffering in silence we need to reach out to others. The book is informative as it does cover a very important topic – but it is also entertaining.

You will learn more than you ever expected to learn about menopause but you will enjoy the process of learning because the information is offered in a light and free-flowing style.

So what is 'shmirshky'? I probably shouldn't give this away but the fact is, if you are a woman you have one and you are one. A shmirshky is a vagina and it is a female. As you will learn, this term was used by one of Ellen's friends and Ellen liked it so much she adopted the term for her book.

For a quick read about a topic none of us love but have to accept anyway – Debbie Allen (that's me) highly recommends 'Shmirshky'!
